On Dumpster Diving
The author shows pathos in the writing by giving personal experiences of hardship he has had to go through. When he says "I have heard of people maliciously contaminating discarded food and even handouts," This quote shows how being homeless is hard enough and then people will go out of their way to hurt a homeless person. Another quote says "No matter how careful I am I still get dysentery at least once a month" This also shows the hard times and how common it is to get sick or get bad food out of a dumpster. Also he talks about the type of food he finds and how it effects his health, "I tend to gain weight when I am scavenging. Partly this is because I always find far more pizza and doughnuts than water packed tuna, nonfat yogurt, and fresh vegetables."
