These poems from the Harlem renaissance show many people the real talent these people had in this time period. Also their personal thoughts and feelings they experienced. They explain what was happening in a creative and enjoyable way that readers can enjoy forever. Claude McKay is a very popular writer from this time period and in many ways shaped this culture. In the poem the White House, written by Claude McKay it states "Your door is shut against my tightened face,And I am sharp as steel with discontent; But I possess the courage and the grace, To bear my anger proudly and unbent.” This quote shows how the struggles in this time period felt to certain people. And how it effected them.
